Riots

While I hope and pray that this will never happen in our country, I feel compelled to remind all of us of what human beings are actually capable of doing. This same image of riots and military oppression from the year 2001 is beginning to resurface across the globe, with the recent food shortages, massive work layoffs, and soaring poverty rates.

This is happening in Egypt,

In Mexico,

Haiti,

And even India,

...to name a few. These are not riots that are race related or in the interest of cultural sovereignty. This is the middle class in direct conflict with the upperclass because they cannot afford to buy food. Will we one day see these images outside our windows in the streets? Hard to say.

I have always tried to maintain my belief that Canadians are the most peaceful and intelligent people on the face of the planet. But from all that I've seen so far, I cannot underestimate the brutality we are capable of. It's actually pretty bizarre that we've haven't blown ourselves to tiny pieces already. We've come very close to doing just that.

What we must do, as a people, is come together and support each other. We must reject the system and begin our own, and that system must be based entirely on compassion. We must not hoard and we must not steal. When thousands of people gather in one spot, they should not be rioting. They should be healing and feeding each other.
